SAP America, Inc. Makes a Big Commitment to the Nonprofit Community

August 7, 2009

Despite their importance, and the importance of the work they do, many nonprofits go without the basic technology they need to do business.  These nonprofits either lack the funds or the expertise to maintain their own technology.  Others take valuable resources out of their programs in order to afford the technology they need or wind up using one of their staff members as an “Accidental Techie.”

SAP America, the Newtown Square based software company, is taking steps to help over 350 nonprofits in our region who struggle with this challenge.  They have pledged $20,000 to NPower Pennsylvania (NPower PA) and Steven Shander, Senior Vice President at SAP America has joined NPower PA’s Board of Directors.

NPower PA provides charities in the greater Philadelphia region (including Delaware, Chester, Montgomery, and Bucks County) with technology help.  Their technicians go on site, fix broken computers, maintain healthy ones, and help nonprofits make smart decisions about the technology they use in their day-to-day operations. NPower makes changes that allow nonprofits to help more people and increase the reach of their programs, all while significantly reducing their technology costs.

SAP America’s support could not have come at a better time; NPower PA is getting more requests for its services than in years’ past.  Economic conditions are straining nonprofits and, at the same time, decreasing donations mean that nonprofits have to do more with less.

SAP America made its pledge as part of NPower Pennsylvania's Nonprofit Technology Awards Luncheon.  The event on October 16th, 2009 will bring together individuals and corporations who are committed to sustaining and improving nonprofit organizations in our community.  It is the region’s premiere event for technology executives who care about the nonprofit sector and want to make an impact.  Last year, over 425 leaders from the greater Philadelphia's business community were in attendance.

SAP America and NPower PA hope to draw attention to the needs of nonprofits in our community during this downturn and raise over $250,000 to support them.    For more information about NPower PA or to sponsor the 2009 Technology Awards Luncheon on October 16th, visit www.npowerpa.org.
