In Philadelphia, more than 70,000 young people between the ages of 16 and 24 are neither in school nor employed. Currently, workplace internships and other opportunities to gain job skills and experience are available to only a fraction of these young people.

Solenny Herrera, 24, ganaba salario mínimo trabajando en una fábrica de detergente. Su esposo José Rafael trabajaba en un taller de ventanas. La pareja dominicana estuvo desempleada por casi tres meses cuando decidieron inscribirse en el programa ITWorks de NPower Pensilvania.

Hoy Solenny trabaja tiempo completo en Reed Technology y gana $13 por hora, mientras su esposo trabaja en un laboratorio de computadoras.

ITWorks, sponsored by NPower PA, is a program aimed at training young individuals from the ages of 18 to 24 to be better prepared to enter the workforce in today's competitive economic climate. Targeting the over 70,000 underprivileged youths of southeastern Pa. who are neither in school nor employed, ITWorks' 16-week long information technology training program has come to a close and the first class of this area is slated to graduate Feb. 2, in the Mitchell Auditorium in the Bossone Center.
